I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I developed a strong passion for raptors at an early age. My formal involvement in observing and studying birds of prey began in May 2003, when I was 17 years old and in my final year of high school. Although raised in Argentina, I received a bicultural education, as both sides of my family are of Slovenian origin.
My research focuses on the ecology, migration, seasonal abundance, behavior, natural history, and conservation of Neotropical raptors across South America. Over more than two decades, I have conducted fieldwork and large-scale, long-term surveys across multiple South American countries, combining traditional field observations with citizen-science datasets, photographic analyses, and natural history approaches to better understand raptor ecology and conservation. Through my research, I am to improve the scientific understanding and conservation of South American raptors while integrating broad-scale ecological perspectives with detailed natural history observations.
Through my formal education, together with extensive field experience collecting data across South America and translating these experiences into scientific publications, I have developed the technical knowledge and professional maturity necessary to carry out the ambitious cross-continental two-volume book project Raptors of South America. This project represents the realization of a long-standing personal vision: from an early age, I have been inspired to produce a comprehensive work on the raptors of the continent, as no single book has yet adequately covered the more than 100 species that inhabit South America.
